Dark Side of the Earth

On the right of the picture are photographs of the recent Lunar Eclipse, taken when the Earth throws the moon into total darkness. On the left, an image of the new planetarium at Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

It is possible to see furthest in darkness. Then we can see the stars and planets. In the day we are blinded by what is near. While painting this picture and Tides of Knowledge I wondered why humanity goes through dark periods. Periods when certain knowledge seems to be lost.

In this picture I realised that there is something to be gained from each phase of a cycle… day and night, darkness and light.
