Knowledge: Limits of Perception Knowledge is a tool that can limit or liberate. If we are too sure we know something, then we close our eyes to anything that doesn’t fit with our beliefs. Feeling we “know” can limit our capacity to learn. These paintings depicts the difference between following the accepted wisdom by the letter. In Limits of Perception, the sheep follow the words out of the gate… (the text used is that of a sermon inciting violence in early Christianity and reflects a closed attitute that possibly resulted in the burning of the Ancient Library)… at the end is a statue of Newton… symbolising a rigid adherence to scientific proof, and a belief in a mechanistic universe. Beyond that are the stars and planets (including Jupiter which symbolises learning, searching and expansiveness). But to reach them we need to let go and fly (Free Spirit). Use knowledge to serve us rather that be bound by it. Acrylic and collage on hardboard © Nadia Warner - this picture may not be used in any way whatsoever without her permission. |
