In my life I’ve been very influenced by my dreams, and two series of paintings first came to me as dreams (The Trial of Lucifer and Spirit of the Whale). Lucid dreams also fascinate me. In these the dreamer becomes conscious of the fact they are dreaming - and so has the power to weave dream experiences in a direction of their choice. What interests me is the idea that our life experiences are created in the same way, but we’re not aware of our power to "dream them up".

I’ve also had poweful out-of-body experiences. At the age of 14, I experienced a near-death experience. In it I saw my past as if on a video, before travelling up a tunnel at great speed towards the light. At this point I realised I was dying, but had the choice to return and live.
