My relationship with whales began with a series of very powerful dreams that either left me jubilant or, on one occasion, sobbing. I had to look up this huge barnacle-covered baleen whale I’d dreamt about and could remember in every detail. It was the gray whale. In my dreams a particular gray was my soulmate, and came to take me home. The dreams lead me on a journey to Baja California, Mexico - to the warm lagoons in which the gray’s breed each winter. There, some of the events that happened in my dreams, occurred in reality.

I returned home intent on helping to create a future where man and whale could not just co-exist peacfully, but could have an extra-ordinary relationship! I started painting this series to express my feelings for the gray whale and to try to unravel some of the messages in my dreams.
